Tasting Notes: Strathisla 1963 (Gordon & MacPhail)
Update: So I went back for another dram of this last night, only to have the price quoted to me as $30/glass. I guess I just got lucky and the bartender didn’t know what he was serving last weekend.

I think I may have stumbled across the best deal on whisky in all of Brooklyn.

Tasting Notes: Three Expressions of Connemara...
Irish whisky isn’t normally my scene. In fact, before this tasting, the most Irish whisky I’d had was a couple shots of Jameson while quoting references to The Wire. But Dan brought me back three miniature bottles of Connemara - a peated Irish whisky - from a trip he took this summer, and I thought it was time to give them a try. The Connemara website is currently undergoing a...

WhiskyFest SF: The Toasts of Simon Brooking,...
WhiskyFest San Francisco was a wonderful event. It was filled with friendly (if at points sometimes strange) whisky fans, fantastic drinks, and some pretty amazing folks from the distilleries. News from Laphroaig's Simon Brookings
Last night Laphroaig’s brand ambassador Simon Brooking was here in Brooklyn for a free tasting of the Ardmore Traditional Cask, Laphroaig 10, Laphroaig Quarter Cask, and Laphroaig 18.
I went to the last tasting of the night, attended mostly by the staff of my local wine shop, and we were also lucky to get a sample of Laphroaig Cairdeas and Laphroaig 25 (both really awesome, but no tasting...

Tasting Notes: Lagavulin 12 Special Release 2007
Poor Lagavulin. It’s neighboring Islay distilleries - Ardbeg and Laphroaig - were my real introduction to scotch whisky, and Lagavulin has always played 3rd fiddle to those two greats in my book. But I’ve made a conscious effort in recent months to give Lagavulin more attention, and it is definitely beginning to grow on me.
Lagavulin’s core expression here in the US is the 16...
