Best in Blog #32: Corryvreckan Makes Waves
If you’re into whisky and have a pulse, you know that the big news this week is the release of Ardbeg Corryvreckan, the replacement for the now-discontinued Airigh Nam Beist. Word on the street is that this is an outstanding bottle that will cost you $85, a good $25 less than the Beist, once it hits the shelves in the states (any day now I think).
- Here’s tasting notes from John Hansell, who scores Corryvreckan a 96.
- The Whisky Exchange blog has an interesting take, to say the least, and notes that Corryvreckan will be more expensive in Europe.
- The Scotch Blog has the official press release from Ardbeg.
I will say that it’s surprising to me that only two of the major whisky bloggers seem to have received tasting samples. I know Ardbeg isn’t hurting for publicity, especially after topping Jim Murray’s list two years running, but still it’s not a huge cost to them to send out a few more bottles. . .
Ah well, now on to our usual Best in Blog programming from all us bloggers who weren’t lucky enough to see a bottle of Ardbeg arrive this week.

1st time I tried Talisker 10yo.Overall an excellent whisky. I’ve deducted a few points because it is branded. To the best of my knowledge there is caramel in it (E150), & its chill filtered. I do recommend this. This whisky is in fact a winter warmer. If it’s cold or if it’s wet, Talisker is the single malt Scotch whisky that will dry you out. You could spend hours with your nose in this one!
