New York City Single Malt Scotch Tastings – November 2009

Posted in Events, New York on Nov 15, 2009

This is sure to be an incomplete list, but there are a whole lot of upcoming whisky tastings here in New York during the next two weeks. Here’s a quick look:

November 16:

Chivas Regal at Park Ave Liquors

I don’t have a direct link to the event details, but according to the Whisky Cast website Park Avenue Liquors will be hosting a tasting of Chivas Regal.  Call ahead for details.  Single Malt fanatics might want to go for a tasting and then pick up a bottle of Caperdonich, the chief single malt in the Chivas blend.

November 17:

Heights Chateau in Brooklyn Heights (Atlantic Ave at Henry St.) is holding two tasting seminars with the Scott’s Selection.  The first session is from 6 – 7:30pm.  The second session is from 8pm – 9:30pm.  Experience tells me that the later of the two is the one to attend. Tickets are $40.

Join Brian, the kilt-wearing Chicagoan representative for Scott’s Selections, as he pours our new Top Ten. Please call Heights Chateau at 718.330.0963 to sign-up or for more information. Space is limited. Tickets are $40.

#1 Auchentoshan 1983
#2 Bladnoch 1984
#3 Macallan 1989
#4 Glenrothes 1980
#5 Glenlivet 1977
#6 Glenlivet 1971
#7 Highland Park 1986
#8 Caol Ila 1984
#9 North of Scotland 1964

November 18:

The Brandy Library is teaming up with French culinary school L’Ecole to offer a six-course dinner with whisky pairings.  Single Malts on the menu include:

  • Springbank 10 year
  • Glenlivet Nadurra
  • Glenfiddich 15 year
  • Ardmore
  • Longrow CV
  • The Dalmore Gran Reserva

The food will probably be great, but the price tag on this one is steep – $175 per ticket.  Seems a little high considering the single malts being offered.  Most of these are the lower-end offering for their respective distilleries.  Then again, ordering a dram of all those single malts in a bar would probably cost you about $100 or more . . .

November 20:

Head back to Brooklyn’s Height’s Chateau to celebrate the release of their own 10 year barrel of Eagle Rare from Buffalo Trace distillery.

Heights Chateau Barrel Release Party
At Heights Chateau

5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Join us as we celebrate the arrival of our personally selected 10 year old barrel from Eagle Rare. Eagle Rare is a brand of bourbon whiskey distilled and distributed by the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Our barrel (#084) won us over with its smooth body, fairly light oak treatment, and nice tobacco spice. It won over our palates over the 12+ barrel samples we tried, including Sazerac, Blanton’s and Buffalo Trace. Sample our barrel, enter to win bourbon giveaways, attend a tasting seminar on Eagle Rare Bourbon, and more!
