Best in Blog: Whisky Fest NY Approaches, and Lots from Highland Park
Tasting Notes From Bloggers We Trust:
- If you read any tasting notes today, read Scotch Hobbyist’s excellent review of the Highland Park 12, 15, and 18.
- When you are done with that, go check out an excellent rundown on all the new releases from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society by Karen at Whisky for Everyone.
- Whisky for Everyone is enjoying a Glentauchers 1991 from Gordon & MacPhail. This single malt is usually reserved solely for inclusion in blends.
- This Craigellachie 1991 from Gordon and MacPhail’s “Connoisseur’s Choice” sounds delicious.
- Whisky Notes samples a BenRiach 1975 (Tawny Port Cask), and a 1978 (Gaja Barolo Cask).
- John Hansell is on another American whiskey kick. This week he rolls out tasting notes on the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection “Double Barreled.” He gives good marks to the 1997 vintage, and one of the lowest ratings I’ve seen to the 1993.
- An expensive Woodford Reserve Limited Edition “Master’s Colleciton Seasoned Oak Finish” gets better grades, as does the 14 year old Wild Turkey “Tradition.”
- Tasting notes on the new Highland Park Vintage 1964 and 1968, and details on the entire Vintage range, are on Whisky Intelligence this week.
- Whisky Intelligence also samples a curiously pinkish release from Bruichladdich – the 19 year old Black Art.
- Be sure to also check out Whisky Intelligence’s reviews of Allt A’Bhainne 15 from Murray McDavid and Port Ellen 23 from Douglas Laing’s Provence.
- Whisky Host has tasting notes on a wide array of Japanese whiskies. Well worth a read.
